Takahiro Imai’s “Paradox.”

Currently on view at Haven Gallery in Northport, New York is artist Takahiro Imai’s solo exhibition, “Paradox.”

“Paradox” is the first solo exhibition of Takahiro at Haven Gallery, showcasing a collection of his classically rendered, stylized portraits of women. These paintings depict the figures playfully engaging with the viewer, inviting them to participate in their antics. The women depicted are youthful in appearance and dressed in cosplay-inspired fashion, imbuing the works with a sense of whimsy and buoyancy. Takahiro’s traditional portraiture is infused with artistic historical techniques such as chiaroscuro, while also incorporating elements of Japanese fashion, purity, and the visual aesthetics of anime and manga subcultures. This creates a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, resulting in museum-quality portraiture and cultural explorations.
